Learn to Spin on a Drop Spindle

Saturday, May 26; 1:00-4:00pm

Turning fluff into string is an addictive and fabulous form of fibre fun! Come on in to learn how to make your own yarn on a drop spindle. This class covers the basics of spinning a 2-ply yarn you can use for knitting, crochet, or weaving.

No previous spinning experience needed.

Warning: we are not kidding about the addictive part. And the best part... you can take your drop spindle anywhere and spin away... 'tis very portable and awe-inspiring.

Cost - $60.00***
All materials are included in the class fee, including notes and a spindle to take home.

Long Draw Drafting

Thursday, June 7; 7:00 - 9:00pm

Learn to spin light, airy yarns with this useful technique. We'll go over the fibres and preparations best suited to the long draw, and you'll learn the basic principles of woollen (as opposed to worsted) spinning, as well as a few variations.

Participants should be able to spin a continuous yarn and will need to bring their own spindle or wheel.

Plying Methods

Thursday, May 31; 7:00 - 9:00pm

Go beyond your basic 2-ply with this class on plying methods. We'll cover ways to ply from a single source of yarn, plying to preserve colour changes, cabled yarns, and more.

Participants should be able to spin a continuous yarn and will need to bring their own spindle or wheel.

Fiber Prep

Learn how to turn a raw fleece into spinnable fibre in this workshop. You'll learn about choosing and washing a raw fleece, preparing it for spinning using carders and combs, and how different preparations are suited for different types of spinning. We'll be working with raw and washed wool and a variety of fibre prep tools. If you have your own handcards or wool combs, feel free to bring them to the workshop, as well as your spindle or wheel if you'd like to try spinning your prepared fibre right away!
