Beginner Crochet

Our 101 level classes assume you have never hed a hook before and we will start you off with the very basics to get you comfortable executing each stitch with the correct recognition and placement of stitches. We will be focusing on making sure you can create squared up fabric... so you can move on to making fun shapely projects in no time!

In these 2 sessions you will be introduced to the speedy and wonderful world of crochet! Learn (or refresh your knowledge of) the basic stitches: chain, single and double crochet.  We will cover increasing and decreasing and basic pattern reading. 

In the second session we will review your stitches and get you started on crocheting in the round!  So many items can be whipped up in the round, from hats to slippers to rugs and more... We will show you how to work in the round flat (think rugs) and the not so flat (think hats)!  

Come on in and get hooked on crochet and get started on this addictive form of yarn play with confidence!

Our crochet projects are meant to help teach you to follow patterns and practice and refine your skills! You will already need to know the basic stitches so we recommend the 101 level classes or equivalent exerience. But if you are comfortable with working your chains, single crochet and double crochet... you are absolutely ready to delve into the projects below!

Granny Squares

Granny squares are a speedy and varied technique in crochet which are very good to have in the repertoire! We will cover the classic square motifs, how to change colours, and joining techniques.

101 Level skills needed: You are comfortable creating the basic stitches chain, slip stitch, single crochet, and double crochet.

Please bring or buy: 2 or more colours of a smooth worsted weight yarn and a 4.5mm hook

Remember those lovely, delicate white cotton snowflakes that just screamed handiwork and holidays?  Well, come on in to learn the twists and chains of crocheting these little lovelies. Learn about working with the tiny hooks and little cotton, as well as starching to make them stiff and perfectly shaped!


This is NOT a beginner class.  You must be confident with chain, single, and double crochet stitches.

Toy Making - Amigurumi
Create Rosie the Robot

Sundays, October 18 & 25; 11:00am-1:00pm
Tuesdays, November 17 & 24; 7:00-9:00pm

Whether you knit or crochet, this class is for you! We will cover all the aspects of toy making over two sessions, while working to create Rosie the Robot, in your choice of craft.

Topics covered will include seaming, stuffing, special safety considerations, and embroidery and finishing work. Rosie has been designed so that there are many options for customizing her look!

Shuttle Tatting 101

Will be back in January

In these 2 sessions, you will be introduced to the delicate art of Shuttle Tatting, an old form of lace-making.

In class 1, you'll learn the structure of this lace by practicing a series of simple knots and loops, and how to follow a basic chain pattern.

In class 2, you'll learn to create rings and medallions.

The techniques involved can be used to make edgings, table decor, ornaments or jewellery. It is truly the most portable and economic way of making these embelishments, and can be carried in a pocket or a small pouch!
